Texas State NBHA 1D Champions!
**** DISEASE UPDATE ****
The State of Texas has seen an increase in Rabies cases in horses this year. To date, 12 cases of equine Rabies have been reported. One of these cases was in a horse from Montgomery County. Horse owners are reminded to vaccinate for Rabies annually as part of a "core vaccination" program.
Also, mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus have been identified in Montgomery County. One horse in the Conroe/Spring area has been diagnosed with West Nile Virus Encephalopathy. The dry weather has decreased mosquito activity this summer, but horse owners should be aware that a wet fall will bring an increase in mosquitoes. Make sure your horse has received an annual vaccination for West Nile Virus.
The Equine Herpes Virus outbreak in Utah has been contained and there is no restriction of horse movement related to the outbreak. However, horse owners are reminded that this was not the first outbreak of EHV-1 disease and it probably will not be the last. If your horse travels extensively, we are recommending a booster vaccination for EHV-1 every 90 days.
